How to convert PDF to JPG

  1. Add your PDF.
  2. Pick the Image quality, from 72 to 600 DPI. To convert only some pages, tap them in the thumbnails or type them in Pages, such as 1-3, 7.
  3. Press Start and download the JPG, or every page in one zip.

Which DPI to pick

We converted a text-heavy A4 page with Quality left at 90, the default. At 72 DPI the JPG was 595 × 841 pixels and 137 KB, enough for a quick look on a phone. At 150 DPI it was 1240 × 1753 pixels and 424 KB, and it reads well on any screen. At 300 DPI it was 2480 × 3507 pixels and 1.1 MB, enough to print the page at full A4 size. At 600 DPI it was 4960 × 7015 pixels and 2.6 MB, which only pays off when someone has to zoom into small print.

Scanned pages get heavy much faster. Our test page, a single 200 DPI image, the way a scanner saves a page, came out at 187 KB at 72 DPI, 704 KB at 150, 2.5 MB at 300 and 7.6 MB at 600. That last one is more than seven times the 1 MB PDF it came from. A scan holds no more detail than it was scanned with, so a higher DPI mostly adds weight.

When PDF to JPG beats PNG

JPG files are small, and nearly every app accepts them. Use this when you want to send a page in a chat, drop it into a slide, or post a flyer online. If the page has fine text or a chart you need to zoom into, PDF to PNG will look cleaner.

What you get back

Every page becomes one image, named after your file and the page number, such as contract-page-3.jpg. With two pages or more, Download all as .zip saves them in one go, or you can save them one at a time. The background is white, so transparent areas of the PDF won't turn black.

Whole pages, not the pictures inside

This is a PDF to image converter for whole pages. If you want a photo or a logo that sits inside the PDF, Rivmu can't pull it out on its own. Convert that page at 300 DPI, then keep the part you need with Crop image. iLovePDF has an Extract images mode for this, and Smallpdf offers it on its Pro plan (both checked in November 2026).

Other ways to do it

On a Mac, Preview can save a PDF as a JPEG: open it, choose File > Export, then pick JPEG in the Format menu. Online, iLovePDF, Smallpdf and Sejda all convert PDF to JPG. Smallpdf says it deletes files from its servers after one hour, and Sejda after two hours, so your PDF is uploaded first. Sejda's free plan stops at 20 pages or 50 MB and 3 tasks an hour, with 75, 150 or 220 DPI to choose from, and its desktop app works offline. We checked all three sites in November 2026.

Mistakes to avoid

Picking 600 DPI for a page you'll only send in a chat gives you a heavy file that looks the same on a phone. Saving a chart or a spreadsheet as JPG blurs thin lines, so use PDF to PNG for those. Don't expect to edit the text afterwards: a JPG is a picture of the page. And converting a 200-page report at 300 DPI on a phone can run out of memory, so do it in page ranges or on a computer.

Formats and limits

Any standard PDF works, one at a time, up to 300 MB, or 100 MB on a phone. Pages up to A4 or US Letter get the full 600 DPI. Larger pages, such as A3 or a poster, are capped at 40 million pixels, so they come out at a lower DPI. Password-protected files need the password removed first. On a phone, start long documents at 150 DPI.

Questions people ask

Is the quality good enough to print?

At 300 DPI, yes. An A4 page comes out at 2480 × 3507 pixels, which prints at full size. Use 150 DPI for screens.

Can I convert just one page?

Yes. Tap it in the page thumbnails, or type its number in Pages. Ranges such as 2-5 work too.

Why is the text slightly fuzzy?

JPG compression softens sharp edges a little. Move Quality from 90 toward 100, raise the DPI, or use PDF to PNG, which avoids it.

Can I get the images inside my PDF?

Not as separate files. Rivmu converts whole pages. Convert the page, then use Crop image to keep only the picture.

How big will the JPG be?

In our test, a text-heavy A4 page was 424 KB at 150 DPI and 1.1 MB at 300 DPI. A page made of one 200 DPI image, as a scan is, came out larger: 704 KB and 2.5 MB.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Your browser draws the pages and saves the JPGs, and the file never leaves your device.

Can I convert several PDFs at once?

One PDF per run. If you want all the pages in one go, combine the files first with Merge PDF.

How do I turn the JPGs back into a PDF?

Use JPG to PDF. It takes up to 50 images at once, or 25 on a phone.
